Tuesdays are "I Tried It Tuesdays" where I'll tell you about something I recently tried -- an item, a movie, an activity, etc.

Today's Topic:The Big Green Screen at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center.
What it is: A four-story high, 45-foot-wide movie screen at the TREC center.
What we saw: Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzee's.
Why we saw it: We'd been meaning to go to check out the Big Green Screen since they opened it, but just never found the time or the money (it's pricey). A coupon in the (shameless self-promotion alert) Erie Times-News coupon clipper (2 for $10) and special winter evening hours, were the perfect excuse for us to make the journey across town Saturday night.
Quiet nice: We went to the 7 p.m. show...and got there about 6:30 so the kids could walk around. We were the only people there...which was kind of sad, but kind of nice, too. Once we got into the theatre, there was another family there.
Concessions: What I didn't expect was a little concession stand with popcorn and candy and all the usual movie-theatre yummies, so...be aware that it's there & bring a few extra bucks if you want movie treats. I had no extra cash and had to suffer through the whining and promise both microwave popcorn and a cookie for snack when they got home.
The movie: The movie was excellent and was appropriate for kids of all ages. There was only one semi-scary part where the chimps were fighting with each other. My kids (5 & 7) were interested in it...though the 5 year old got bored at the end (she's antsy by nature though...and was all upset about the no-popcorn thing). The movie was interesting and was sort of like a Discovery show on a giant screen.
How long: About 45 minutes run time...started at 7, was over at 7:50 p.m.
How much: Price list can be found here. You can find coupons in the past two Erie Times-News' coupon clipper books for 2 admissions for $10. The next coupon clipper comes out January 28.
Now playing: I really want to go back and see the other two films they are now showing because they look way more intriguing and would be much more visually stunning on the giant screen. The other two are: Mysteries of the Great Lakes and Journey Into Amazing Caves.
Would I recommend it to a friend? At 2 for $10 yes...at $7.25 for adults...probably not. But..I'm cheap like that.
