Malcolm Kysor is a convicted killer, so only a fool would pull for him to continue to elude police. But in the nearly five months since he made his daring escape from the State Correctional Institute at Albion in northwestern Pennsylvania, many of us have wondered on more than one occasion where the heck he was.
Kysor's escape, which was well planned and flawlessly executed, led to a staff shakeup at the prison at Albion, and the story has been well documented in the Erie Times-News. The warden lost her job and security at the prison has been greatly beefed up.
Kysor escaped by hiding in a garbage can. It was hard not to be impressed by the planning and execution of his escape, but his re-capture in the less-than-glamorous transient community near Bakersfield shows he wasn't quite the brilliant mastermind he apparently considered himself.
He was brought to justice after a Bakersfield resident who frequents transient areas overheard Kysor bragging that he was on the FBI's Most Wanted list. A tip to the police led to his apprehension, and Kysor will be coming back to Pennsylvania in the next few days.
What would have happened had he kept a low profile and said nothing about his criminal past? Who knows? But it's pretty clear Malcolm Kysor is no genius, despite how well his escape from Albion came off.
