I wish I had thought of that earlier

Sometimes you wish you had just thought ahead a little bit more. I had two such wishes this weekend.

For Father's Day weekend we went out to my in-laws' place in Marblehead, Ohio. My mother-in-law is on a bicycle trip right now, but my father-in-law elected not to go on the trip so he could be by the boat and the water on Father's Day. Keith, too, wanted to be on the water, so we drove out Friday night.

The weekend was so hot, and so we didn't think much of Autumn's lack of appetite. She wanted to drink a lot of water, though, and we encouraged that.

Sunday we went to the beach. Autumn still is not crazy about the water. She likes to look at it, but wanted nothing else to do with it. I put some water in her little sand pail and she did like to put her hands or feet in that, but not Lake Erie. Since she was so freaked out by the water, she sat real nice in her little chair. It was so cute, I stood at water's edge and took a picture. And got stung.

I walked to a nearby family friend's place, but they had no baking soda (for a baking soda/water paste to take the sting out). Neither did another family friend nearby. One neighbor did have Aveeno cream, which I put on for lack of something better. And I thought, hmmm... I should really have a first-aid kit in the car and perhaps put some baking soda or Benedryl in the kit. But, hindsight.

As I said earlier, Autumn really had no appetite. When she woke in the car on the way home, Keith offered her bread pieces, but she wanted nothing to do with it. We soon found out why when she threw up in the car as we were pulling off the highway and into a gas station.

Gross.

As I started the gas pumping, Keith started cleaning her up. I got some wet paper towels and a garbage bag from one of the workers inside. Because we were coming back from a trip, we had a ton of baby wipes in the car. After the last time she was sick in the car, I picked up some of those Lysol wipes, which worked well for wiping up her car seat, and a small roll of hand wipes to keep in the car.

I must say this... God bless my husband for cleaning up vomit on Father's Day. He did most of the cleaning and I could not be more grateful.

So, now I have a towel that will be tossed in my car. I'm going to add a better pack of wipes and a plastic bag for clothes. I wish I could say this would be the last time she'd ever be sick in the car, but I think that's quite naive.

"What to Expect the Toddler Years" suggests Band-Aids, and Ace bandage, rubbing alcohol or alcohol pads, gauze, adhesive tape, sterile cotton balls, scissors with rounded tips and a small penlight, as well as some items to induce vomiting, in my car's First-Aid kit. I think I'll skip the syrup of Ipecac and the charcoal, but I will add Benedryl, Neosporin and maybe an ice pack.

Does anyone recommend anything else for the car before I start shopping?
