Autumn said Dada before Momma.
A long time before Momma.
But then she started to say Momma a lot. On those once-in-a-blue-moon nights when she woke up, she wouldn't just cry anymore. Among her wails were the most pathetic sounds of "Momma." It was almost enought to make me hop out of bed and run to her. Instead I waited, with her Daddy, to see if she'd just put herself back to sleep. Most of the time that's the case.
Lately, though, Autumn's been saying "Mommy." It's so cute and she knows it. She'll say "Mom-my." I'll say "Ba-by." She gives me a big grin and I give her one right back.
So when she woke up last week I heard the tears. Then I heard "Mom-my." Tears. "Mom-my." Tears. "Mom-my." Just when my resolve was wearing down and I was ready to give in, it got quiet again.
And it just dawned on me -- it's pretty convenient, isn't it, that after all that time where she just said "Dada" that now, in the middle of the night, she yells for Mommy? It just makes me wonder if Daddy's been coaching her on that one.
