NOW she decides it's fun

Saturday one of Keith's former coworkers had a picnic at his house near the lake. I realized once we arrived there that we probably weren't going to use the swimsuits I had packed. But we figured there was no reason why we couldn't at least walk on the beach and let the kids play in the sand.

You may remember that at the beginning of the summer -- way back at Memorial Day -- Autumn cried at the prospect of dipping her toes into the water. At that time, I thought it was going to be a long summer, because we spend a lot of time on and in the lake.

But on Saturday, after dinner, we told the kids we could go to the beach and play in the sand. So we walked down, got the sand toys out of our cars, and started to walk to the beach with -- guess who -- Autumn leading the way. She walked along the path as if she had done it a million times. Keith ran up ahead to walk with her as she got closer and he said when she arrived there she yelled "Water!"

Our little girl played in the sand and walked on the waters edge. She picked up rocks and threw them in, just like her Daddy who was skipping stones. And one time as the little waves came in and crashed at her feet, she bent at the waist and laughed so hard that I had to laugh, too.

This dramatic change of heart in just four short months. So now, since it's turning cold, she decides to love water so very much. Since she'd decided it's so great, you know that means swimming lessons will have to be right around the corner. Even if I'm still floundering, she can learn to swim like a fish.
