Back on the safety kick again -- just in time for Halloween

I recently received some info from Safe Kids Erie that reminds us of safety rules for Halloween.

When I was a kid, I remember receiving the tastiest homemade popcorn balls from my parent's neighbor. Now, of course, we're taught to check kids' candy and not to accept items that aren't prepackaged. Unfortunately this has brought an end to items like those popcorn balls at the Wilsons.

So while we keep the whole candy-safety thing in mind, I'm also going to pass along these tips from Safe Kids Erie, which wants to remind us about other dangers.

* Kids younger than 12 should not trick-or-treat without supervision.
* Bring flashlights or glow sticks.
* Carry reflective bags or have reflective tape on costumes.
* Do not let kids wear masks which may inhibit their avility to see hazards.
* Kids trick-or-treating on their own should stick to a predetermined route with good lighting.
* Kids should cross streets safely.
* Walk on sidewalks or paths.
* Be a safe pedestrian around cars -- watch for cars turning or backing up. Don't dart out in front of cars or cross between parked cars.
