I've been off work since Wednesday. Initially I took Thursday and today off so I could do some things around my house to get ready for Keith's birthday this weekend and Autumn's birthday next weekend. Then I found out my Dad had to go to the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center for a procedure Thursday.
My parents aren't comfortable with driving around Pittsburgh -- the city driving just makes them nervous. I can't say I like Pittsburgh driving either. Each time I go there, I end up driving in circles, missing a turn or taking huge detours, looking for signs that aren't there.
The last two times, my brother drove my parents to Pittsburgh as my father had appointments there with a doctor not at the Erie hospital. So I figured it was somebody else's time to make the drive. It shouldn't fall on Darryl to drive to Pittsburgh each time Dad has an appointment. So I took Wednesday off to run some errands and do the things around my house.
Nothing much got done Wednesday, because the errands ran long. I went to bed late and got 4 hours of sleep before leaving my house at 5:17 a.m. Thursday to go to Pittsburgh. We made it. We had the appointment. There will be more appointments to come. And this morning Mom and I will drop Autumn off at "school" and drive back to Pittsburgh to pick up my father, who had to stay overnight.
So, I'm tired. And the reason for my apology is that I have nothing much else to tell you about in my life as a parent right now. These last two days have been more about my role as a daughter. Maybe that's another square that needs added on that Graco magnet. "Today I am ... a daughter."
Anyway... at least now you know why my blog entry was so late yesterday. Have a great weekend -- I'll be sleeping in, if Autumn lets me!
