A boo-tiful evening

I held little hope for taking Autumn trick-or-treating last night. When I drove home and raindrops kept sprinkling my window, I thought there was no way. But then the rain stopped. We ate dinner. We prepared our bags of treats for our trick-or-treaters.

When the first kids came to the door, Autumn seemed ready to leave the house with them. I kept asking her if she wanted to go outside and she'd say "yes." But each time I asked her if she wanted to put her costume on, she'd say "no." Eventually, she must have decided it was worth it, because she finally said "penguin" instead of "no."

So we put the costume on, left Daddy at home with treat bags to give out, and we set out to neighbors' houses. She'd walk up each driveway, go to each door and say "HI!" when they opened. Occasionally, with some prompting, she'd say "trick-or-treat" or "Happy Halloween." And as soon as they gave her some candy, she'd say "BYE!"

It was completely adorable.

We now have way more candy than she needs. But we didn't go trick-or-treating for the candy, as odd as that sounds. We only get about 10 kids coming to the door on Halloween and we love to see each and every one of them. So I looked at it as letting the neighbors see another child dressed up for the holiday. She was quite adorable and people seemed really happy to see her. She seemed to have a good time, too, and that's really why we went out.

I think it was the most fun I've ever had on a Halloween night.
