So, where do we go from here?

It's taken me weeks to think about the season finale and just what happens next.

The last episode was a mish-mash of storylines -- Jin offers to partner with Widmore, Desmond and Penny are reunited, Kate is still crazy and Jack is crazier.

With people on the island, off the island, in the present, in the future, in the desert, in the sea -- everywhere -- we need to think about what happens next.

I think next season is going to start kind of right where this episode left off. We will see a present-time sequence with Juliet and Sawyer, stumbling through the jungle toward Alpert and Locke and Co.

The biggest move over the next season will be the Six's attempt to return to the island, and the island's move toward being re-captured by DHARMA. We can assume that the viral commercial for people to join the DHARMA Initiative was some kind of sign that they had the island again.

Widmore's first assault on the island failed, how might his second -- DHARMA's second -- succeed.

Let me know what you think. Post a comment below.

Arthur James Wenzel:

It was Sun, not Jin who offered to join forces with Charles Widmore. Jin is most likely alive somewhere that'll place him back on The Island.

As for Juliet, Sawyer, and the rest of the Survivor's Camp (which now includes Bernard and
Rose, Miles, Charlotte, and I'd guess Daniel somehow, I think the Others would exclude them. Most pretensiously for not being on any lists. The big question looming in my mind is whether Ben is coming back. On the one hand, he told Locke he coudldn't come back if he moved The Island, but he's lied about so much else, what's to say he wasn't lying about that for some reason?

Also, I wonder if Desmond and Penny might end up on The Island again. It's unclear how moving the Island works and if the Island was moved in such a way that the Black Rock ended up in the middle of the Dark Territory, what's to say that Penny's boat couldn't experience a similar fate. And once on the Island, all her cryptic comments about researching the Island could prove useful...n'est ce pas?

But I think you're right, Jack is going to have a bloody hell of a time getting Kate, Aaron, and Sun on his side before he can move toward the Island again. Hurley and Sayid are a given with Ben's influence (and I think likely return to the Island in exchange for returning the Oceanic 6 plus Jeremy Bentham).

Other questions I have left over are:
(1) What will Desmond's significance as constant for Daniel be, if any?
(2) Will Walt return to the Island? And if he does, how will he react to his father being dead?
(3) Is Jin alive? It seems pretty likely since he was on deck and not as close to the C4 as Michael, but can he make it back to The Island after it moved and how will Sun's alliance with Widmore be affected when she finds him alive?
(4) Is there some sort of Grandfather paradox between Ben and Charles i.e. are they related via time travel? If not, where to "the rules" come from and why are they committed to them?
