News and views from the NFL weekend

The NFL didn't allow Chad Johnson to wear his new Ocho Cinco jersey on opening weekend. Actually, I think the league should make Johnson wait to wear it until the Bengals reach 85 points scored this season, which should be sometime in late November.

-- Debate rages on over whether Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard was guilty of a cheap shot on the hit that ended Tom Brady's season. Patriots coach Bill Belichick intended to consult the game tape to determine if the hit was clean, but later discovered that New England's videotape assistant was filming the Chiefs' defensive signals instead of the play.

-- It looks like Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are going to be just fine without Brett Favre. Rodgers even got the visiting quarterback -- Minnesota's Travaris Jackson -- to agree to play the "He throws the crippling, game-ending interception" part.

-- Rookie quarterback Joe Flacco completed 15-of-29 passes in the Ravens' victory over the Bengals. Brian Billick, watching at home, punched himself in the head and asked, "Where was this kid when I was running the Single Wing for all those years in Baltimore?"

-- LeBron James could be seen buddying up to several Cowboys stars Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Browns fans pretended not to notice until someone overheard LeBron asking Jerry Jones for Mark Cuban's cell phone number.
