Giants at Browns: First-quarter update

What happened: The Browns took a 3-0 lead on Phil Dawson's 28-yard field on the opening drive.

Browns notes: The Browns were sloppy on offense, committing two false starts and an illegal shift. Another illegal formation penalty was declined. ... Donte Stallworth made a nice play on a short slant pass from Derek Anderson that he turned into a 13-yard gain. ... Jamal Lewis is running hard. ... Dawson's 51-yard attempt was wide left with 33 seconds left in the quarter. ... Braylon Edwards shook Aaron Ross' tackle to turn a moderate reception into a 49-yard gain to set up Dawson's field goal.

Giants notes: Eli Manning had pressure on the interception he threw to Brodney Pool. ... Manning hit Michael Matthews for 13 yards and Steve Smith for 12 yards.
