Cowboys-Steelers: First quarter update

Steelers 0, Cowboys 0

Notes:

-- Temperature at kickoff was 22 degrees -- 8 degrees with the wind chill.

-- Jeff Reed had been missing field goals wide right to the open end of Heinz Field during warm-ups, and his 45-yard attempt with 12 minutes to go in the quarter was...wide right.

-- The Cowboys lined up Terrell Owens deep at tailback and ran the ball to him on third-and-2. Owens gained 1 yard.

-- James Harrison had the low, initial contact to stop Cowboys fullback Deon Anderson on fourth-and-1 at the Steelers 33.

-- It looked like Terrell Owens broke off his route on the third play of the game, when Tony Romo threw a pass that Troy Polamalu easily intercepted to stop Dallas's opening drive. Romo appeared to be expecting Owens to cut hard toward the sideline, but replays showed Owens softened the route and angled upfield.

-- Polamalu has an interception in four straight games and leads the league with seven.

-- It looked like Mike Tomlin made the right decision in not challenging the ruling that Romo's arm was coming forward when he was hit late in the quarter near the Dallas 10. Tomlin got a quick look at the play on the stadium scoreboard and quickly ruled out tossing his challenge flag.
