Good thing the Yankees signed C.C. Sabbathia, because it's been a rough week in the Big Apple. The Giants actually looked more bored than distracted in losing to the Eagles, and the Jets...well, you just can't get beaten by the 49ers this time of year. Outside of New York, the Steelers and Panthers appear to be making plays for the top seed in each conference, even though they will probably need help from other teams.
On to this week's rankings...
1. Tennessee (12-1) It was almost cruel the way they toyed with the Browns last week. Can't wait for the Steelers matchup. (Last week : 2)
2. N.Y. Giants (11-2) It's tempting to say the law caught up with the Giants last week against Philly, but they probably were just due for a bad game. (Last week: 1)
3. Pittsburgh (10-3) The defense is playing great, but how good can they be with such a Jekyll and Hyde running game? (Last week: 4)
4. Carolina (10-3) It's taken a lot of convincing, but after watching the Panthers beat the Bucs on Monday night I'm finally a believer. (Last week: 7)
5. Indianapolis (9-4) That's six straight wins for the Colts. Time to start drinking the Blue Kool Aid again. (Last week: 6)
6. Baltimore (9-4) Rookie Joe Flacco is playing well, and the Ravens' defense is just as nasty as ever. (Last week: 9)
7. Tampa Bay (9-4) Losing to the Panthers hurt, but it's not like the Bucs are suddenly on the outside of the playoff race looking in. (Last week: 3)
8. Arizona (8-5) Congratulations to the Cardinals on clinching the NFC West, even it was a little like winning an ugly pageant. (Last week: NR)
9. Denver (8-5) The bad news is the Broncos might have to hit the streets looking for a healthy running back for the playoffs. (Last week: NR)
10. Miami (8-5) The Dolphins have started some extra weight-lifting in case they have to carry Bill Parcells off the field after the Super Bowl. (Last week: NR)
Dropped out: N.Y. Jets (5), Dallas (8), Minnesota (10).
