Chargers at Steelers: Pre-game

Checking in from Heinz Field about 90 minutes before kickoff. Light snow is falling at Heinz Field, where a few players bundled up in fleece are warming up and fans are beginning to trickle in.

The forecast is for temperatures in the 20s with snow, although nothing is accumulating on the field, unlike the first meeting between these teams when a pre-game flurry coated the grass about an hour before kickoff before melting off.

Just a reminder of a stat you've probably heard often this week. The Chargers, despite their warm-weather home digs, are 2-0 in Pittsburgh in the playoffs, winning most recently at Three Rivers Stadium in 1994. Not that that matters, since Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers and many of their teammates were teenagers then.

Here are a few tidbits from the Steelers postseason media packet handed out in the press box this afternoon:

-- The Steelers are 10-1 all-time in divisional playoff games at home. Their only loss was in 1992 to Buffalo. They are 5-0 since them.

-- Hines Ward and Deshea Townsend have the most playoff experience on the Steelers' roster with 11 games apiece. Aaron Smith has appeared in 10 playoff games.

-- Ward has 896 career postseason receiving yards, third all-time in franchise history behind John Stallworth (1,054) and Lynn Swann (896). Ward also has eight career postseason touchdowns, also third all-time behind Stallworth (12) and Swann (nine).

I will check in again with inactives when they are announced.

-- John Dudley
