Kayak and sailboat fishing

A few years ago I stuck a rod holder on my kayak. I never actually used it because I moved up to a sailboat. I was also worried a northern might pull me under.

Strangely, the first thing I did was stick a rod holder on my new sailboat. And, never used it until one day....

....we were sailing around seagull point doing about 4 knots and I tossed a Rapala overboard. In a matter of minutes I had a fairly large fish on...but couldn't reel in the baitcasted line due to the forward speed of the boat.

The walleye kept popping in and out of the water skiing along like he was in a Cedar Point water show - he was a very long way off my transom!

Eventually I stalled the boat into the wind enough to reel in the exhausted walleye. I caught him in about 30 feet of water.

I was so unprepared for success I didn't have a plan much less a bucket so I tossed the poor, gasping fish back hoping he'd regain enough strength to live another day.

I think maybe I'll stick a rodholder on my motorcycle.
