Election 2008: The outdoors vote

If you're an outdoorsperson -- Republican or Democrat, centrist or radical -- then conservation and the environment likely will play a major role in your voting choice for president in November.

From oil production, to Second Amendment rights, to public lands, climate change and endangered species, there's plenty at stake in this election.

Field & Stream interviewed both Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama about their views on all things outdoors. It's vital background as you make your decision.

Outdoor Life also chimes in.

Republicans for Environmental Protection have endorsed McCain. REP put out a 2007 Republican-only Congressional scorecard.

The left-leaning League of Conservation Voters has its own scorecard on the candidates. McCain scored a zero LCV rating in the first session of the 110th Congress in 2007; Obama pulled a 67 percent from the group, a year after a 96 percent rating.

And then there's how Obama and McCain present themselves in their own campaign literature.

Outside Magazine got things rolling in December 2007 looks at all the candidates, including McCain and Obama.
