Waterfowl migration report for week of Oct. 5

Waterfowl migration report for week of Oct. 5, provided weekly to the Erie Times-News by the Avery Outdoors Pro-Staff:

Pro-Staff member: David Rearick

Location: New Castle

Weather: Weather has been average for the season, Cooler nights and days along with a little needed rain have made the weather feel more seasonable

Water conditions: Still low, we need some water to fill a lot of backwater areas

Feeding conditions: Lots of cut corn and plenty of aquatic vegetation

Species and numbers: Local ducks and geese abound, but the wood ducks appear to be starting to move out.

Migrations: None to speak of.

Season stage: Early duck season starts Oct. 11 in the south zone. Other zones start opening Oct. 18.

Hunting Report: No hunting at this time

Gossip: Many guys that are out are not seeing good numbers in any given area, just small pockets of local birds. Hopefully, that will change for everyone come Saturday. Good Luck!
