Waterfowl migration report for week of Oct. 26

Waterfowl migration report for week of Oct. 5, provided weekly to the Erie Times-News by the Avery Outdoors Pro-Staff:

Pro-Staff member: David Rearick

Date: Oct. 28

Location: New Castle

Weather: Colder temps have taken over the last few days with strong north and northwest winds and rain. We are also seeing our first measurable snow

Snow cover: An inch on the ground this morning.

Water conditions: Getting better every day, water is also starting to build in fields

Feeding conditions: Awesome with lots of cut corn, both picked and chopped. Things are looking good for the migrating birds.

Species and numbers: Mostly resident Canadas that have pushed down from the north with only a slight influx in duck numbers.

Migrations: The resident migration from the northern portions of Pennsylvania and New York has begun, no major migrations of the SJBP geese has been noted to date.

Season stage: Mid Season

Hunting report: Goose hunting has been good with wet fields and large huntable groups. Lots of scouting has been required to find these re-grouped birds, but when you find them it’s game on.
