Trout in winter

Steelhead anglers will tell you some of the best fishing of the year in northwestern Pennsylvania takes place in the chill of winter, when all but the hardiest or most fanatical anglers have packed away their equipment until spring.

Not all of us are winter hardy or fanatical.

For those who'd rather watch winter from the warm side of a window pane, but who still dream about wading into moving water and coaxing a fish to a fly or lure, check out a new video from Beattie Outdoor Productions, shot on the Roaring Fork River in Colorado.

And next time you complain about the cold and snow, remember the smiling angler in the video tromping through hip-deep powder and down a mountainside to get to the water. We should all have it so tough.
