Presque Isle Bay ice fishing update

The ships that have been expected in Erie since Thursday still have not arrived as of the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 17, leaving frozen Presque Isle Bay to the most daring ice anglers.

Half a dozen huts were up near the Chestnut Street access this afternoon, and dozens more filled Misery Bay. As the wind picked up in the afternoon, there's little doubt the few bucket anglers on the cityside ice wished they were elsewhere.

The U.S. Coast Guard has warned that the 860-foot Roger Blough and 1,000-foot Presque Isle will disturb the nicely formed ice near the channel and Misery Bay when they arrive. As always, use caution on the bay ice at all times, but especially in the hours and days after the ships do come in.
