Use caution on Presque Isle Bay ice

The Coast Guard is warning ice fishermen to use caution today, Thursday and Friday because of large vessels that will be breaking up ice in Presque Isle Bay.

“We wanted to give the folks that are on the ice a heads up that the conditions could possibly deteriorate,” Petty Officer Bill Campbell said.

The Roger Blough is expected to arrive Thursday morning, Campbell said. A 1,000-foot vessel, the Presque Isle, is expected to come in Friday morning.

Campbell said the vessels would likely have the greatest effect on ice in the area of Misery Bay, and in the narrow channel between the tip of Presque Isle and the mainland.
