N.Y. walleye record set

Erie Times-News outdoors writer Mike Bleech reports that a 16-pound 9-ounce New York-record walleye was caught Jan. 20 at Mystic Lake, Cattaraugus County

Record-holder Thomas Reed was using a creek chub for bait. His catch beat the standing record, caught at the Allegheny Reservoir, by 2 ounces.

Mystic Lake is a small, private lake near limestone, off Tunungwant Creek. This creek flows northward out of Pennsylvania and into the Allegheny River at Riverside Junction. If it is connected to the river it is a logical place to find huge female walleye, particularly at this time of the year.
