Otters place Rogers on trade block

The Erie Otters have placed overage winger Ronny Rogers, 20, on the trade market, Sherry Bassin, managing partner/general manager, said today. “We’ve going to investigate the interest in him (around) the league,” Bassin said. If Bassin cannot finalize a deal, Rogers could be reassigned to a Tier II club, potentially with the Huntsville Muskoka Otters, Erie’s Jr. A affiliate. He played for Huntsville in 2005-06.
This past weekend, Rogers told coach Robbie Ftorek that “he wanted to get his head cleared,” Bassin said. Rogers didn’t specify if he was unhappy playing for the team, Bassin said. But Bassin said he sensed Rogers was unhappy, possibly with ice time, although Rogers never indicated that. Rogers, the club’s only overager, had three goals, seven points and 97 penalty minutes in 23 games this season. He set career highs with 18 goals and 41 points in 65 games last season. Bassin expected Rogers to score 25 goals this season.
“We want to look at another environment where he can get back to where he was productive,” Bassin said.
