18:38 left -- Brandon Biggers heads to the penalty box for 4 minutes for a checking from behind penalty. But the Otters' strong penalty kill, coupled with a controversial no-goal call by the officials during the power play, kept the scoreless tie intact. That is, until left wing Sean Jones snapped a 12-game scoring drought with a rebound goal 6:17 into the period. Jones fired three shots at Rangers goaltender Parker Van Buskirk before the puck finally squeezed into the net. Luke Gazdic assisted on the goal.
By the way, Kitchener's coaching staff vehemently requested a replay on the disallowed goal, but were denied.
7:35 left -- Rookie winger Anthony Luciani's roughing penalty handed the Rangers their third power play of the period. His hit along the boards also prompted a brief skirmish involving all 10 skaters on the ice. But the Rangers never threatened.
5:21 left -- In response to Biggers' earlier penalty, the crowd erupted in boos after officials handed Rangers center Julian Cimadamore only two minutes for checking Luciani from behind.
The penalty handed the OHL's 19th-ranked power play their first chance of the evening. As expected, the Otters failed to score, as they fell to 23-for-173 on the season.
But even strength was a different matter. Andrew Yogan scored for the second straight night to hand the Otters a 2-0 lead with 46.2 seconds left in the period. Moments later, a tripping penalty led to the Otters' second power play. It also appeared Biggers scored as he slid on his side into Van Buskirk to give the Otters a three-goal lead. But the goal was waved off, even though the goal light was turned on.
Period ends -- Otters 2, Rangers 0 ----- Shots on goal: 9-9
