Sherry Bassin, Erie Otters managing partner/general manager, heads to Tullio Arena today to watch tonight's game against London. He plans to have his cell phone charger in hand.
"There's been really a lot of calls for a week now," Bassin said, referring to trade talks leading up to the OHL trade deadline at noon Friday. "We're constantly on the phone now. I've got to make sure I've got a charger because my battery will run out. I'll be on the phone so much."
Bassin declined to speculate if he would complete a deal before the deadline or trade players off the current roster. Recently, Bassin said an overage forward could be on his wish list, and an abundance of picks in the next two drafts could help finalize a deal. At the time, Bassin said he didn't foresee trading any current players.
"I've got lots of picks," he said today. "Hopefully somebody's got something we like." Bassin also said, "I like the chemistry of the team and the job the coaches have done. But I'd like to add something. ... You've got to add some value."
Bassin reiterated that he hasn't pursued Oshawa center John Tavares.
