I've now got 115 women officially registered for the Erie Runners Club/Her Times 5K run/walk on Sat., Oct. 14. I think that's pretty good considering the deadline isn't until next Friday and most people wait until the last minute. I think we'll have no trouble reaching my goal of 300 participants.
We have already ordered finishers ribbons. Every woman who finished the race will receive one.
We recently ordered some really cool custom-label Her Times 5K water bottles with a sport cap. These are bottles you'll want to keep, take home & reuse.
I've been working on the awards for the run -- the top three women in each of the five year age groups will receive a special 5x7 framed Erie Times-News photo -- with the race info & their place on it -- i.e. 1st place, 20-24. Top three overall women will get 8x10s.
If you want to take advantage of the free babysitting, you must pre-register by Fri., Oct. 5. That said, if you want to bring the kids and walk (or run) with them in a stroller (or wagon) -- feel free to do so. This will be a mommy-friendly event! Children are more than welcome to come see their Mom doing something wonderfully healthy for herself!
SafeNet -- the charity who will benefit from our race -- will be selling merchandise at the event. Bring your wallet if you think you might want to buy a t-shirt (with the slogan "You can't beat a woman").
BTW -- we are hoping to have Safenet's slogan "You Can't Beat A Woman" printed on the back of our race t-shirts along with their internet address (we have to see if it will be cost prohibitive first).
Early packet pickup will be held at the Times offices (205 W. 12th Street) on Thurs., Oct. 12 & Fri., Oct. 14 from Noon to 1:30 and from 4 to 6 p.m. both days. Picking up your packet early means no waiting in line (or having to arrive early) race day morning.
Got any questions about the race you want answered -- particularly for you newbies? Just post a message, or send me an email at heather.cass@timesnews.com. Chances are someone else is wondering the same thing.
