It's not too late to participate in the Erie Runners Club's St. Patrick's Day race tomorrow. There is a 10K division and a 5K fun run division. Runners and walkers are welcome.
Complete info on the race can be found here: http://www.erie-runnersclub.org/stpt/info_2007.php
You can sign up day-of-race at Presque Isle State Park's rotary pavilion starting at 8 a.m. (race is at 10 a.m.). Be aware that you will likely not get a t-shirt if you sign up day-of-race (it pays to pre-register!), but it's just $10 and well worth it to join in the fun. BTW -- if you plan to register day-of-race, print out an application: http://www.erie-runnersclub.org/applications/20070317StPatsAppA.pdf and fill it out before you go so you can just hand it to the registration table workers with your payment.
Wanna see if your friends are already signed up? Check out the competition here: http://www.erie-runnersclub.org/stpt/register_2007.php
I'm doing the race -- the 10K -- even though it doesn't quite fit into my training schedule because:
1.) It's tradition -- it wouldn't be St. Paddy's day without doing the 10K in the morning and going to the parade in the afternoon!
2.) I'm "paying forward" the green beer calories I will later consume.
3.) I have to complete the ERC's Winter Series to get my hooded sweatshirt
4.) It's just fun and I love catching up (or trying to keep up) with all my running friends!
So, wear something green -- crazy outfits are encouraged -- and join us. If you don't know anyone there -- look for me and I'll be happy to introduce you around!
I had a 9-mile run at race-pace this morning. It went well despite the fact that running on the treadmill bores me to death and I kept hopping off to get water, blow my nose, look for new music on my ipod (any excuse to break up the boredom!).
I'm seeing Dr. Dan, the chiropractor later today -- he should be able to put my bones back in place and show me some stretches and/or massage techniques to help with the tight calves I experienced last week.
I'll need to break 47:08 to set a PR in the 10K tomorrow. It's unlikely after today's 9-miler and my sore glutes from too many down-low squats at Body Pump last night, but I'll give it my best.
And, really, that's what I love about running. No one is counting on me to run a 47 -- just me. And, if I don't have it in me tomorrow -- I'll get more than a few more chances later this year. Racing season is just getting started.
Hope you'll join us!
