Erie's master runner Barb Filutze will, once again, be doing her beginning runner/walker training program this summer. The flyer was in yesterday's Erie Runners Club newsletter (the club is presenting the program with Barb).
Here's the basic info:
The progarm will be held on Mondays at 6 p.m. at the Presque Isle Cookhouse from June 18 through August 6.
The format for the program? You'll sign in when you arrive, Barb will give a short training talk and then turn the microphone over to a guest speaker (everyone from doctors to sports medicine people to nutritionists to the ERC president...) they will give a short 15-minute-or-less presentation. Then, Barb will draw for doorprizes and then you'll go for a workout at your own pace and distance on traffic-free trails.
Those who signup to do the whole program will receive a free ERC water bottle on the 18th. Those who complete the pogram will get an ERC Training Program t-shirt at the conclusion of the program and will be invited to a particpant's picnic.
You'll also get a free fitness calendar to log your progress, free handouts from the guest speakers and the chance to win doorprizes every week.
What does it cost you? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. The only thing you have to give is a little sweat.
It's awfully hard to beat a deal like that.
If you're new to running, I encourage you to come out and make some friends and learn a little more about the sport (and bring a friend or two...kids are welcome, too!). And, if you're a veteran runner, I encourage to attend so that you can run with some of the new runners -- perhaps lead a pace group -- and be there to answer questions, provide encouragement and pass on your passion for running.
