Tonight -- in about and hour and 45 minutes, actually -- is the Run From the Moose 5K in Harborcreek. My husband loves this race. Really, I think he loves the free food and beer at the Moose Club after the race, but he loves it none the less. So, I signed him up. I politely declined.
And, boy am I glad, since it is -- just as I suspected -- a scorcher of a June evening. Currently, it is 87 degrees and hazy with humidity. Ick.
I know there is a whole faction of runners who enjoy running in the sun. I'm not one of them. I'm a vampire runner, preferring to get out and back before the sun really rises. I just cannot stand the heat on my face and the sheets of sweat dripping into my eyes. It makes me miserable, and, frankly, running is hard enough without Mother Nature turning it into a sauna run.
So, tonight, I'll stand there with the kids and a cold drink in hand and cheer on all those crazy, sweaty runners. I've got today's mileage (7 miles) behind me. I was done at 6:30 a.m. before the 3 H's came out to play.
