When more is not better

I've been victim of the faulty thinking that if 5 miles a day is good, 6 is better, 7 is best...etc. There were times in my life when my daily mileage hit 8 miles -- it was getting ridiculous and my body soon put an end to it with injury after injury.

It's hard to know, though, what is the right mileage. Is 5 miles a day too little? Is 7 too many? This is especially hard to figure out when you throw in the weight equation (how much do I need to run to maintain my weight)?

Runner's World magazine's e-newsletter had this great article that sheds some light on the subject.

P.S. The e-newsletter also had a this article on how to deal with a disappointing race performance -- something this sulking runner found useful.
