Finally! I have uploaded the photos from the Her Times 5K this weekend. Most of these were shot by Vicki Hunt, a few were shot by ETN photographer Lauren Anderson and a few were shot by yours truly. See the whole album here.
All in all, the race went off without a hitch. This was, in no small part, due to the efforts of a lot more people than just me. I seriously could not do this race without all my great friends in the Runners Club and here at the newspaper.
It's a LOT of work to put one of these races together, but...it's very rewarding. When I finally got healthy (after a 28 years of being overweight and lazy), I wanted to shout it from the rooftops. I wanted to tell every overweight woman I saw that I had figured it out (the secret to lifelong weight loss) and I could show them how to do it too. One foot in front of the other -- that's all. That's it. That's the whole secret. Nothing else will work.
So, this race was born out of my need to give back. To reach out and help other women to get fit. Being fit/thin isn't the answer to happiness -- no, that lies within. But, it is the key to feeling great about yourself and that ends up affecting what lies within.
Congrats to all the 375 women who ran and/or walked (or ran/walked) on Saturday. Whether it was your 1,000th, 100th, 10th or 1st race. I hope you'll join us again next year!
