I wanted to share this with you!

My 9 yr old son Joshua DeMay ran/walked The Annual Law Day 5K race on Saturday and here are some pictures of him finishing the race! I am so proud of him! He finished the 3.2 miles in less than an hour! He said it was the hardest thing he has ever done! But he did it! Of course both of us cried at the end!

This was a huge accomplishment for him and he has been working very hard and he did it! The woman running next to him in the shorts and yellow ball cap is his teacher, Miss Donikowski and the gentleman with the blue ball cap is Mr Tarbell. They started a fitness club called "Recess Runners" which is a group of 3rd graders who would run during their recess, working up to be able to participate in this race.

Joshua has always struggled with his weight and fitness and he has been doing so well trying to watch his food intake and increase his exercise and because of these wonderful teachers and the Recess Runners he finished the race. In fact Mr Tarbell stayed with Joshua encouraging him on and talking him through to the end.

One of the best things was that Miss Donikowski and the other kids who already finished the race went back and cheered Josh on and ran the last block with him! It was so wonderful to see! I am just so proud of Joshua, the Recess Runners, the wonderful teachers who sacrificed their free time and energy for the children and of course Iroquois Elementary for the wonderful support of the whole program!
