Know the lingo: PR

When you're just getting started in a sport, it's hard to learn the lingo. Running and walking, like any sport, has it's own special language and local phrases. Each week, I'll define a term or phrase that will help you not only walk the walk (or run the run), but talk the talk.

PR: This stands for personal record. When you hear someone say they had a PR, it means they had the fastest time they have ever had at that distance. If you ran a 10K last year and had a 56:17 and then you run one this year and have a 56:03 -- that's a new PR for you.

Most runners know their PRs for every distance like the back of their hand. Others, myself included, have to keep a record of them in the back of their runner's log book and look them up before (or after) a race.
