Marathon words of wisdom

"To describe the agony of the marathon to someone who's never run it is like trying to explain color to someone who was born blind." — Jerome Drayton

That said — everyone should try this at least once in your life. If you're a new runner — it's a long-term goal to work toward that offers you a lifetime of bragging rights.

Hello

The words of wisdom are well timed as my girlfriend and I realized we're only about 10 weeks away from our next attempt at a 1/2 marathon. We were talking about the amount of time commitment it would take to train for a full marathon during our last long run. We think that if we continue to keep running eventually we may attempt a full marathon. First, we need to get faster and be more comfortable with our 1/2 marathon attempt.

I was reading some of the older blogs and I was wondering if what makes you decide to go for the full marathon distance. Does it usually start out as a 'double dog dare' from a running partner? I also saw your general training schedule for the 1/2 marathon. It was oddly similar to the approach that my running partner and I are taking. We saw this as a good sign that we are on the overall right approach and will eventually become faster runners. I'm curious about your water consumption as you force on training for an event. We started our training process during the winter months and now as the weather starts getting warmer and our distances/speed is steadily increasing - hydration is starting to become a concern. Do you follow the general rule of 8 - 8oz glasses of water a day and do you think it makes a difference?

Good luck this weekend. I'm looking forward to hearing how the race goes for you.

Thank you.
