No doubt you've seen the latest craze in women's running fashion -- the running skirt. I first became aware of this hot new trend at the Cleveland marathon in 2007 when I ran behind a woman wearing one.
Honestly, if she could have see the view from back there, she would NOT have been wearing that skirt. With every foot strike, the back flap flipped up and gave a not-so-flattering view of her nether region which -- let's face it, ladies -- no matter how fit you are doesn't look good when it jiggling up and down. There's a reason we cover our asses.
There's a great big skirt story in the current issue of Runner's World magazine (worth picking up!) that covers the topic pretty thoroughly.
Apparently, among women runners, skirts are a pretty polarizing topic. Some women feel they're silly and stereotypical. Some women think they're cute (and still quite functional, thank you).
I'm not sure where I stand on the issue. I suppose I'm one of the few indifferent souls in the middle. I don't care one way or the other. I don't see myself buying one, but...if it were deeply discounted or someone gave me one, I might try it.
But, if I did/do, my first run will be in front of a trusted girlfriend who will give me an honest evaluation of the rear view.
