Yesterday was the Erie Runners Club's Presque Isle 1/2 marathon at...well, you guessed it...Presque Isle. Word has it there were over 560 runners and they come from all over for this race. You can see complete results here.
I didn't run and I was totally bummed. I LOVE the half marathon. I don't think I've missed a Presque Isle half-marathon since I started running 10 years ago!
What happened? I woke up Saturday morning with serious calf pain (like I'd run a marathon!) and back pain after having run around (literally... I was on my feet from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m hosting two different parties on Friday in cheap, flat sandals). The sandals are the only thing I can think of that could've caused that kind of pain overnight.
I thought for sure it would go away by Sunday morning. I suffered through Saturday -- popped some ibuprofen and didn't walk or run (except for cleaning up from the parties...ugh).
But...Sunday morning, it was pretty clear I wasn't going to be running 13 miles..or any miles, really. Calves still tender and sore, back still throbbing and tight. I stayed in bed and pouted while my husband went off to the 1/2.
I thought long and hard about going -- and suffering through it -- but I know two things: 1.) my time would've been horrible and, 2.) I'd definitely have caused an injury that lasted more than a day or two.
I feel better this morning...aches and pains are mostly gone now and cheap, flat sandals are in the freakin' trash can where they belong!
The ironic part of this whole story is this article in this morning's Erie Times-News. If only they'd run this LAST Monday... :-)
