The second night of Barb Filutze's Step-by-Step training program was held last night and, fortunately, the weather held out on the west side -- it never rained at the peninsula while we were there (my husband said it poured in east county).
Each night of the training program there are three speakers -- one is Barb who talks on a running-related topic (from training to injuries to shoes). Then, there is a guest speaker -- sometimes a doctor (chiropractor, podiatrist), sometimes a running-related business owner. And, finally, there is a veteran area runner.
Last nights guest speaker was from Achilles Running Shop in Meadville -- the Erie area's only specialty running shop (if only they'd move to Erie...sigh...). The guest speaker talked about how to choose shoes, what to look for and what to stay away from. He also answered lots of questions at the end of the evening (he had a long line of people waiting to talk to him!).
I was last night's veteran runner. Veteran runners are asked to share their experience with running -- how they got started, why they run...how they find time for it...stuff like that. I did my dog-and-pony show and passed around my wedding album with the size-22 Heather (ick..it hurts to even look at those photos now) and I hope I helped inspire a few people.
If I can get Barb's lineup of speakers...I'll let you know (right here on this blog) in advance of the training sessions who will be the guest speakers.
There was quite an impressive crowd there. They filled the Cookhouse shelter. Here are a couple of photos:

Want to join in? It's not too late! Just come to the Presque Isle Cookhouse (across from the bike rental place...on the bayside) on Monday at 6 p.m.
