A friend and I tried out a new class at the Pennbriar last night -- Kettlebell -- an ancient Russian workout. The kettlebell looks like a cannon ball with a handle and comes in several weights from 10 lbs. to 50 lbs. The workout involves swinging this sucker around (in proper form) for an hour.
It was so much fun. And, it was a great workout, too. Rare is the exercise class that can actually make me sweat. As runners, we're pretty aerobically conditioned and...it takes a lot to get our heart rates up there. This class did that and...the bonus is...it's also a strength/weight training workout, too.
That's all I'll say for now...at risk of "scooping" myself since I'll be writing about the class for a story in our Feb. 1 issue of Her Times.
But...if you belong to the Pennbriar -- this is a fun class worth checking into. It's offered on Monday nights at 6:45.
Here's a sneak peak at a few photos taken last night by ETN photographer Janet Campbell:

I look like a total dork here, but...you can see how much fun I'm having.

Yes...I'm sore today...mostly in the shoulders/back and the inner thighs and butt (no doubt because of the 10,000 squats we did). It's a good sore though...the kind tells me I had a challenging workout -- not the kind of soreness that says I've overdone it.
