NFL Mailbag: Who can call a timeout?

Q: Jim Mora stated that any coach can not call a time out. Is this true? I thought a new rule was implemented this year that they could. -- Elisha Yount

John Dudley responds: The head coach or any player on the field may call a time out. Until 2004, only players could call time out, but the NFL changed the rule to allow head coaches to do so.
