* Coyne rejoins team: The club has recalled rookie center Samuel Coyne, said Sherry Bassin, managing partner/general manager. The club waived Coyne, a 13th-round pick in the 2005 OHL Priority Selection, on Sept. 11. But the Otters retained his rights after he cleared waivers.
Coyne has one goal and five points in 12 games with the Kingston Voyageurs, a Jr. A club in the Ontario Hockey Association, this season. He will remain with the team until injured forwards return. The club began the week without right Nick Palmieri (mononucleosis/tonsillitis), left wing Ryan O’Reilly (bruised right knee) and center Shayne Taylor (concussion).
* Ice issues: Tuesday’s game between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury will be replayed on Feb. 12, the OHL announced Thursday. The game was originally postponed because of poor ice conditions at Sudbury Arena.
The Otters play in Sudbury on Saturday. Bassin has been assured ice conditions have improved. But Bassin has a thought on what should happen in Saturday’s game is also postponed. “I’ll meet (the Wolves) halfway,” he said. “I’ll meet them in Jamestown (N.Y.).”
* Jeffrey earns OHL honor: The league named Sault Ste. Marie center Dustin Jeffrey as the player of the month for October. He had 10 goals and 22 points in 11 games. London’s Patrick Maroon (10 goals, 20 points in 11 games) and Steve Mason (7-1, 2.00 goals-against average and .944 save percentage) were named the top rookie and goaltender. Kitchener’s Yannick Weber (seven goals, 19 points in 11 games) was the top defenseman.
* Canada-Russia honors: The CHL has announced the honorary captains for the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge. Hockey Hall of Famer Paul Coffey, a Kitchener alumnus who had 396 goals and 1,531 in a 21-year NHL career, will be Canada’s captain for the Nov. 22 game at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Rod Schutt, who set Sudbury’s single-season record with 72 goals in 1975-76, will be captain for the Nov. 26 game in Sudbury.
