Allegheny College swimmers Ashley Whitehead and Ryan Lawrence are coming off big home-pool performances as the Gators prep for a meet Saturday at Carnegie Mellon.
Whitehead, a freshman from Meadville, helped the 400-yard medley relay team win, and also finished first in the 50 free and 100 free in the women's 126-102 win over Hiram on Jan. 12.
Lawrence, a senior from Union City, helped the 400 free relay team win in a 122-101 victory over Hiram.
Lawrence also won the 200 free in a season-best 1 minute, 49.29 seconds, and was second in the 100 free.
The Gators visit CMU at 1 p.m. Saturday.
-- McDowell graduate Sean Smiley is the second-leading scorer for the Buffalo men's basketball team.
Smiley has played in all 14 games, averaging 9.8 points and 20 minutes per game. He's hit 28-of-81 3-point field goal attempts.
Buffalo plays at Bowling Green tonight.
-- Leon Rollins, a sophomore from Philadelphia, leads Mercyhurst North East's basketball team in scoring at 20.7 points per game.
The Saints (14-5, 2-2 WNYAC) are off until hosting Alfred State on Jan 24.
-- General McLane graduate Hayden Harrison is ranked No. 1 at 165 pounds in the NAIA wrestling poll.
Harrison, a junior at Embry Riddle, went 3-1 wrestling up at 174 pounds in the NWCA National Duals on Saturday and Sunday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He lost by fall to McKendree sophomore Josh Bryant in 2 minutes, 20 seconds.
Bryant, unranked at 174, was named most outstanding wrestler. He also decisioned No. 1-ranked 174-pounder Enock Francis of Northwestern College 4-2, and won 4-3 against No. 5-ranked Ryan Smith of Great Falls.
Harrison was the NAIA champion at 157 pounds as sophomore and was national runner-up as a freshman.
-- Jason Erdeljac, a freshman from Meadville, was Pitt's diving performer of the week after 131-110 victory over West Virginia this past weekend.
Pitt hosts Villanova, Penn State, Maryland, and Missouri's men's team Friday and Saturday at Trees Hall. Diving starts at 3:45 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
