Mercyhurst College junior baseball player Steve Grife blogs occasionally as part of the College Connection project. His second entry:
The past two weekends have been two of the more important weekends in the fall for us. We had our scout day and played our fall world series.
Our scout day was pretty exciting, we had about 12 major league scouts from various organizations come to our campus and watch us showcase our skills for them. After it was all said and done, our coach brought us together and explained how pleased he was with our performance that day. Coach explained that all the scouts were very surprised at how much talent we had on our team, considering that we are a Division II school and in the north. With two of our players getting drafted two years ago, it has put us on the map as a team that has some talent that could have the chance at playing at the next level, and that is the goal we are all striving for.
The following weekend we held our annual Fall World Series. This is where the captains pick two teams and manage the teams in a best-of-three series, with the loser having to serve pizza to the winners. This is always a fun weekend because the coaches let us just play and enjoy playing against our teammates. My team won the first game but we lost the next two and lost the series and had to serve them pizza
With just two more weeks of fall ball left, I am looking forward to individuals because that puts us one step closer to going south and playing our first series.
