Soccer players are smarter than football players

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb received a lot of heat for not knowing NFL games could end in a tie after his team’s 13-13 draw with the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 16.

McNabb went on to say, “I hate to see what would happen in the Super Bowl and in the playoffs,” apparently not knowing that playoffs have different rules on settling tie games: It’s called more overtimes.

What’s worse, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward also said he didn’t know there are ties in the NFL, and he played in one six years ago!

There are way too many rules in football, but this is one of the simple ones. Football players seem notorious for not knowing their own rules.

Here's proof that soccer players are smarter than football players: There is no doubt that soccer players are well aware their games can end in ties.

Mercyhurst women go far

Congratulations to the Mercyhurst women’s soccer team on an outstanding season.

The Lakers fought hard but fell short in a 3-2 loss to Saint Rose on Sunday in the NCAA Division II tournament quarterfinals. A victory would have sent the Lakers to Tampa, Fla., for the Final Four.

Taylor Hilinski and Sarah Powell had the goals, but the Lakers allowed the winning goal in the 79th minute.
