Will he stay or will he go?
Too bad David Beckham didn’t play for the old San Jose Clash, because those words would be oh so apropos.
The Beckham saga could be concluded this week. LA Galaxy and AC Milan officials supposedly met Tuesday to try to come to an agreement on whether Beckham will be sold to Milan, where he is now playing on loan from the Galaxy.
He is due back in LA on March 9 for training camp for the upcoming season. Milan reportedly offered $3 million for Beckham. The Galaxy rejected that offer, reportedly wanting somewhere in the range of $10 million and $15 million.
Beckham’s stellar play for Milan would only seem to be increasing his value. (By the way, does Beckham really need a training camp after how well he’s played for Milan?)
Beckham has some three years left on his contract with the Major League Soccer club. But he and his wife (which could be even more important) apparently want to stay in Milan.
Who wouldn’t? Beckham is back in top form, surrounded by some of the best players in the world.
Milan’s hopes for the Italian title are fading, but they still are trying to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
My money is on Milan and Beckham getting what they want.
Frankly, I don’t care if Beckham goes. The Galaxy have stunk since he’s been there. They’ve built very little around him.
Besides, I can watch Beckham just as much on Fox Soccer Channel in Serie A as I can on ESPN in MLS.
