High school girls basketball is in the spotlight tonight, with one of the the biggest games taking place at 7:30 p.m. at Mercyhurst Preparatory School. The Lakers (15-4), ranked No. 1 in the Erie Times-News District 10 Class AAA poll, could clinch at least a share of the Region 6 championship with a victory over the Lancers (17-1), who are ranked second. Mercyhurst beat McLane 55-48 Jan. 19, the Lancers' only loss of the season.
Girard and North East, separated by one loss in the Region 4 standings, tangle at 7:30 at North East. The Grapepickers (13-4, 10-3) could move into a tie for second with the YelllowJackets (16-3, 11-2).
Strong Vincent will take a shot at handing McDowell its first region loss when the teams meet at 7:30 at Wayne Middle School, 650 East Ave. McDowell is 16-2, 3-0; the Colonels are 13-3, 2-1.
Maplewood and Saegertown, the top teams in Region 3, play in Guys Mills at 7:30. Maplewood would move to 12-0 in the region with a victory, or end up tied with Saegertown at 11-1 with a loss.
