Looking Ahead To December

While Northwest Pennsylvania has the potential to see it's fair share of snow in the month of November, December and January are, on average, the snowiest months.

An average December sees 25.3" of snow. Last year we only had 12.5" by the end of the month.

The most snow to fall in the month of December happened in 1989. That year we had a whopping 66.9" of snow accumulate. That is Five and a half feet of snow in just one month!!!

The least amount of snow to fall in the month of December happened in 1931. That year only 0.2" fell.

With the current set-up, I would say to plan on more snow this December than we had last year.

In the temperature category, the average high for the whole month is 38 with the low at 26. Last year's average high for the month of December was 44, and the low was 32.

The coldest it ever got in December was in 1880. It reached a bone-chilling -11 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmest day in December's recorded history was in 1982 when it was 75.

This year, plan on the temperatures to hang right around the average, to just above for the month.
