With the severe thunderstorms that rolled through over the weekend, many people believe they saw funnel clouds. The pictures above are from Corry, PA from Sunday, June 29th at about 5pm.
Personally, I am not convinced this is a funnel cloud. Normally, in that situation, you would see a wall cloud, which is not visible here (but these are close-up pictures). Also, it does not appear that this cloud formation is wrapping around, or spinning. There was no doppler indication from Storm Track 4D, or the National Weather Service radars either.
Often, low clouds associated with strong and severe thunderstorms are confused with funnel clouds. The clouds in these pictures fooled a lot of people, and similar storms Saturday Afternoon and evening did the same thing in linesville.
The National Weather Service has a training program that trains "spotters" to be able to tell the difference between the two. However, cloud formations, like the one above, have fooled even some pros!
