Two separate funnel clouds were spotted over the bay just before noon today. According to the National Weather Service, a trained weather spotter called the first one in at 11:39 this morning. These funnel clouds were associated with thunderstorms that were trying to form waterspouts. Our pictures today are from the same funnel, but at different vantage points.
This picture, and the next one were taken by Steve La John. Steve is part of Erie County's Skywarn.
According to our weather watchers, The Crew at S.O.N.S. Hatchery, these two funnels did touch the surface. One formed towards the "Flashlight", which is the outer lighthouse, and stayed in contact with the surface all the way to the peninsula, where they say it even picked up some sand. When waterspouts touch land, they die out rather quickly.

They are great pictures! A lot of times people don't get great snaps like they did of this one. Also, it is nice that most cell phones have cameras. I have noticed people catching weather images more than ever.
