Maplewood Tigers (2-3) at Redbank Valley Bulldogs (4-1), Redbank Valley Field, 6:30 p.m.
Maplewood was game against favored Eisenhower last Friday, but lost to the Region 2 co-leaders 14-6. The Tigers must refocus to try to beat another district power on the road with a short week to prepare. District 9’s Redbank Valley won its first four games before Karns City came to New Bethlehem last Friday and blanked the Bulldogs 23-0.
This will be the second of four straight road games for Maplewood, a stretch that should determine its postseason chances.
Prediction: Redbank Valley 24, Maplewood 14.
Friday
Region 1
Kennedy Catholic Golden Eagles (0-3, 0-4) at Cochranton Cardinals (0-4, 1-4), Cochranton Field, 7 p.m.
Kennedy Catholic finds itself with an uncharacteristic trait: winless through the first half of the season. The Golden Eagles were down 35-0 in the first quarter to Warren J.F.K. last Saturday and lost to their Ohio rivals by a 57-20 final.
Cochranton didn’t fare much better through the first half of the season.
The Cardinals beat Maplewood in their season opener, but have lost four straight. The latest was last Friday’s 45-14 setback at Farrell.
Cochranton only has three games left after Kennedy, which includes road games at Linesville and Lakeview. This figures to be the Cards’ best chance left to get to the win column.
Prediction: Cochranton 20, Kennedy Catholic 16.
Conneaut Lake Indians (3-1, 3-2) at West Middlesex Big Red (1-2, 2-3), West Middlesex Stadium, 7 p.m.
Lost in anticipation of the Linesville-Mercer matchup are the Indians, who have won three straight.
Conneaut Lake defeated Sharpsville, a perennial Mercer County contender, 37-21 last Friday. The Indians rallied from a 21-6 deficit in the third quarter when they scored 31 unanswered points.
Last season’s appearance in the PIAA Class A championship game is a fading memory for West Middlesex. Mercer went on the road and shut out the Big Red 24-0 last Friday.
If Conneaut Lake doesn’t capture the region title, it could make a strong case for a District 10 at-large playoff bid by winning this game.
Prediction: Conneaut Lake 28, West Middlesex 24.
Linesville Lions (3-0, 4-1) at Mercer Mustangs (3-0, 4-1), Mercer Stadium, 7 p.m.
The game of the weekend for District 10.
Linesville has outscored the opposition 176-7 in its four victories. The latest was last Saturday’s 32-7 home victory over region challenger Lakeview.
The Lions’ Doug Williams rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Trevor Litwiler ran and passed for scores.
Justin Angermeier was even better against West Middlesex. The Mustangs’ back rushed for 221 yards and two touchdowns in Mercer’s 24-0 shutout.
The winner gets sole possession of first place in the region. The remaining schedules favor the Lions, who play three of their final four games at home.
Prediction: Mercer 30, Linesville 28
Region 2
Cambridge Springs Blue Devils (2-1, 3-2) at Conneaut Valley Indians (1-3, 1-4), Clements Field, 7 p.m.
The Blue Devils were inconsistent through the first half of the season. The team’s won-loss pattern continued with last Friday’s 32-8 victory at Union City.
James Tobin and Corey Dunton both rushed for over 100 yards in that game. The Blue Devils defense also held the Bears to 158 yards in total offense.
Conneaut Valley broke into the win column with a 34-20 final at Youngsville. Ben Varee caught eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns, while Mike Leonard ran for 143 yards and another two scores.
Cambridge Springs needs to string wins together to snare a District 10 playoff bid, especially with its remaining schedule. The Blue Devils still have to play Saegertown and Mercyhurst Prep.
Prediction: Cambridge Springs 23, Conneaut Valley 7.
Union City Bears (0-3, 0-5) at Saegertown Panthers (2-1, 4-1), Canon Memorial Field, 7 p.m.
How the Panthers respond to last week’s loss at Mercyhurst Prep could determine their fate for the rest of the season. Saegertown came to Veterans Stadium with the offensive firepower to beat the Lakers, but lost 10-6.
Union City appears to be a team that could heal Saegertown’s wounds. Quarterback Eric Albrecht was the Bears’ only constant threat in a 32-8 loss against Cambridge Springs.
Saegertown must take advantage of Union City. The Panthers have three remaining road games, which includes trips to Eisenhower and Cambridge Springs.
Prediction: Saegertown 34, Union City 6.

Central Tech Falcons (1-4) at Meadville Bulldogs (3-2), Bender Field, 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs continue to play well despite the absence of running back Nick Fedorka. Toney Phillips rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns, while Jon Roncolato opened the scoring with a 51-yard run in Meadville’s 27-14 non-region victory over Northwestern last Saturday.
Central Tech will face a Crawford County opponent for the second straight week. The Falcons hope they fare better against Meadville than they did against Titusville, which beat them 41-14 last Saturday at Veterans Stadium.
Central Tech lost despite the performance of Kaylon Mims, who rushed for 142 yards and scored on a 77-yard run.
Prediction: Meadville 28, Central 13.
