This Glass didn't shatter in her PIAA swimming debut

Maggie Glass said she was overwhelmed as she strode into the Kinney Natatorium for the start of Thursday’s PIAA Class AA swimming and diving meet. The Fairview freshman had qualified for states in the the 50-yard freestyle and also anchored the Tigers’ 200 freestyle relay team.

The way she performed in the preliminaries, Fairview coach J.R. Jensen probably hopes Glass maintains her inferiority complex.

Glass opened in the 50 free, where she qualified for tonight’s consolation final at 24.84. She then got Tiger veterans Mallory Waldinger, Lauren Morosky and Kristen Miller into the championship race with a collective time of 1:40.35.

“It was extremely intimidating,” Glass said after the morning session. “Everybody here is extremely fast and they deserve to be here.”

Glass was the second member of her family who qualified for states. Her brother, Elliot, placed 17th in the boys AA 1-meter diving competition in 2007.
